Dear Pamela,
On June 17, Blue Bottle baristas at four cafés announced their intent to unionize with a bold march on the boss to demand voluntary recognition for their union.
The next morning, Blue Bottle fired one of those baristas, BB Young. The union has already filed retaliation charges against Nestlé, but BB has rent and bills to cover now. Can you make a contribution to BB's GoFundMe to help them cover the basics while they figure out next steps?
Here's what BB's union coworkers had to say about it:
BB has worked at WC Morse for over 4 years, and is a beloved member of the community. They've built strong, deep bonds with their coworkers, whose faces light up when they see BB's smile. It's not exaggerating to say that BB is the heart of the community at W.C. Morse. BB is both Black and queer, and Blue Bottle fired them the day before Juneteenth, smack in the middle of Pride month!
Our union does not tolerate retaliation or an attack on Black and queer workers. On Saturday, our Bay Area members held informational pickets outside of their stores to demand that Blue Bottle recognize their chapter and reinstate BB.
We will not be dissuaded by Blue Bottle's petty and disdainful actions. Our Bay Area chapter will win recognition from the company and our union will win a democratic workplace from Blue Bottle.
Stand with BB! Make a contribution to their GoFundMe so they can cover the basics while their union fights for their reinstatement!
In solidarity,
The Labor Force
