Pamela - our right to vote is one of the most important things to have. And now in the Republicans' quest to make the rich even richer, federal funds that fund elections are at risk due to the "big, beautiful bill."
Republicans want to give away our country to oligarchs and make sure we have no means of objecting. That's why they want to make it harder for us to vote: so we can't stand up for ourselves.
We need Congress to invest $825 million in Election Security Grants for fiscal year 2026, which matches the bipartisan investment made in 2020, during the previous Trump administration. Take a moment to tell Congress to fund local election protection.
Elections are the foundation of our democracy. But as we see everyday, that foundation is cracking. The Department of Homeland Security has frozen critical election security programs, the Department of Justice is winding down task forces built to defend our vote from foreign interference and domestic threats. And now, Congress is failing in its responsibility to help fund our elections.
From early voting to mail-in ballots, everything that helps even more people vote is at risk just to give tax cuts to the rich. And the reason why is because Republicans want to suppress the folks who vote against their harmful, dangerous policies.
As we get closer to the midterm elections, it's critical that Congress invests the $825 million in Election Security Grants, and directs at least two-thirds of those funds to the local officials who run our elections.
We're guaranteed access to free and fair elections. Let's keep them that way. Tell Congress to fund our freedom to vote.
In solidarity,
Mike Phelan
