Pamela,
We're writing with an important legislative update: Florida's 2025 legislative session was supposed to end yesterday, but has been extended through June 6 because the legislature has not yet passed a budget. However, the extension will be limited to the budget, and all other pending bills have been withdrawn from consideration.
Thanks to your support, Common Cause Florida has been on the ground every step of the way during the 2025 legislative session, fighting for a democracy that works for everyone. Lawmakers introduced a slate of bills that threatened to undermine your rights, but alongside grassroots activists like you, we fought back — and we're not stopping.
Here's some of what we accomplished together this session:
We defeated an attempt to block thousands of eligible Floridians from voting by stopping HB 1381, a dangerous Florida-version of the SAVE Act. Together, we ensured that no new anti-voter legislation passed during the 2025 legislative session!
We fought for Floridians' right to amend the Florida Constitution with hundreds of phone calls and over 2,000 letters opposing HB 1205/SB 7016. This bill, making it extremely difficult for everyday citizens to put amendments on the ballot, passed yesterday on the last scheduled day of regular session and was signed by the Governor yesterday evening. Together, we fought this bill every step of the way and we will keep fighting to ensure Floridians can continue to exercise our right to petition our government.
We moved the needle on the Disaster-Affected Voter Bill of Rights (HB 1317/HB 1486, HB 1535), a vital effort to provide all disaster-affected Florida voters with the support they need to cast their ballot no matter what county they live in. Together, we proved that even though this didn't pass this year, there is strong bipartisan support for these important measures.
We championed the Harry T. and Harriette V. Moore Voting Rights Act of Florida (SB 1582/HB 1409), legislation that would expand voting access and strengthen voter protections for all eligible Florida voters. Together, we made history when the Florida VRA was heard in committee for the first time ever!
Throughout the 2025 legislative session, our team was on the ground in Tallahassee — meeting with lawmakers, testifying in committee hearings, and amplifying your voice to demand transparency, accountability, and fair elections for every Floridian.
Together, we stood up and spoke out to defend our democracy.
But Pamela, it is your ongoing support that keeps this movement going before, during and after legislative session—in the Capitol and across the state. Chip in to protect Florida's democracy >>
Because when we organize, when we speak up, and when we stay engaged — we win, TOGETHER!
Thank you for standing with us in the fight for Florida's democracy,
Amy Keith, Executive Director
and the team at Common Cause Florida
