Why Donald Trump is Attacking Us
Dear Pamela,
Last Friday, President Trump lashed out at me during an incredibly disturbing rambling speech at the Department of Justice. Why? Because we at State Democracy Defenders Fund are successfully challenging his lawlessness.
We are taking his administration to court, defending the rule of law, and protecting democracy from those who seek to undermine it.
On Thursday, a federal judge delivered a decisive ruling protecting federal workers from illegal terminations through a preliminary injunction against the Office of Personnel Management (OPM). The judge called for the immediate reinstatement of probationary employees across multiple federal agencies.
This ruling is a huge win for workers' rights and government accountability.
You can read more about it here.
We have been so successful that Donald Trump called me out by name. Earlier in the week his administration announced they were revoking my security clearance too. Given our repeated success, I'd imagine this is just the beginning. We need to gear up to defend against whatever attacks are coming. Can you rush a donation to support our work today?
A few other updates on the critical work we are doing to stop Donald Trump
and Elon Musk's autocratic takeover of American democracy:
-
We are taking the fight to the Trump administration's unlawful attacks on federal workers, standing with a coalition of unions to challenge the illegal termination of a union contract protecting 47,000 TSA officers. Our lawsuit against Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and TSA leadership is calling for immediate action to defend the rights of frontline workers who keep our airports and country safe. This is about more than just a contract—it's about democracy, the rule of law, and ensuring that no administration can strip away workers' rights.
-
We've also challenged the constitutionality of the unprecedented power granted to Musk–as an unelected, unconfirmed 'special government employee.'
-
And, despite the Trump administration's claims - at times - about the breadth of Musk's role, we have demonstrated through public reports and firsthand accounts from agency personnel that DOGE has indeed been making critical personnel decisions, restricting access to crucial systems, sending agency-wide communications, and overriding decisions of senior department leadership. Where we think these are illegal, we take action in the court of law - and win fights for the American people.
Where we see illegality, we take action in the court of law - and win for the American people. And, it is clear from his attack yesterday afternoon that we have got Trump's attention. What we are doing is working.
Now is the time to keep our foot on the gas. We need your continued support to keep the pressure on. Click here to give today. We cannot and will not slow down.
Thank you for joining us in the fight.
More soon,
Norm Eisen
