| Pamela, Trump has vowed to eliminate the Department of Education. So it should come as no surprise that he's chosen to nominate a billionaire with no real experience in education to lead the agency. In fact, Trump's nominee Linda McMahon has said she wants to defund public schools and privatize our entire education system. Federal and state employee union AFSCME has found that outsourcing school support staff has led to "a loss of accountability, fails to save money and lowers the quality of services."1 In addition, her support for school vouchers puts private schools over public schools, and disadvantages poorer students and communities. Making the public education experience worse is a great way to justify eliminating it altogether. Trump's nomination of Linda McMahon for Secretary of Education is nothing more than an attempt to destroy the agency entirely. Tell your Senators: Don't let Linda McMahon become Secretary of Education >> The Department of Education doesn't just provide education funding. It also sets standards for student loans, tracks achievement gaps, and is meant to ensure that every student has the opportunity to learn. Instead of focusing on actual education for our kids, though, Trump is focused on retribution for "woke" colleges and universities. We can't afford to see schools close, tuition rise, and student debt continue to climb just because Trump wants to empower his billionaire donors. Tell the Senate to oppose Linda McMahon's nomination now >> Running the WWE and bankrolling Trump's presidential campaign are not the qualifications we need for the head of the agency meant to support our children's education.
