Pamela, it has been devastating to witness the horrific October 7 terrorist attacks in Israel and the escalation of violence that has followed in Gaza. My heart is heavy with grief. I feel betrayed. I feel haunted. And I feel ashamed. We cannot stand idly by numb as we watch this death toll climb. Nor can we be complicit in this bloodshed. The US government cannot continue to let the Israeli government violate international law and operate with callous disregard for human life. Vengeance is not a foreign policy doctrine. And we cannot bomb our way to peace. That's why I was one of the first members of Congress to demand a permanent ceasefire in Gaza to save civilian lives, release all hostages to their loved ones, and facilitate the delivery of life-saving humanitarian aid. Our movement for a ceasefire is growing stronger by the day. More members of Congress and global leaders are raising their voices for peace. I need you to raise your voice, too. Will you please add your name to say you support a ceasefire in Gaza? I was sent to Washington with a clear mandate to lead, to center the marginalized, and to uplift the voices of the unheard. Our shared humanity is on the line. The children of the world are watching, and history has its eyes on us. As a woman of faith, I see this issue clearly: we must never be silent in the face of injustice, and saving civilian lives is the priority. James Baldwin said it best: "The children are always ours, every single one of them, all over the globe. And I'm beginning to suspect that whoever is incapable of recognizing this may be incapable of morality." Tens of thousands of lives have already been lost. Through the grief that we carry, we will never be silent in the face of injustice. A ceasefire to save lives is the mandate, and we must respond accordingly. Will you add your name to say you support a ceasefire in Gaza to help demonstrate our movement's strength? Yours in service, Ayanna |
