Urgent: Tennessee needs your help

After a mass shooting devastated a Nashville elementary school and left six children and educators dead, Tennessee representatives Justin Jones and Justin Pearson joined thousands of Tennesseans in a protest in support of gun control laws.

After a mass shooting devastated a Nashville elementary school and left six children and educators dead, Tennessee representatives Justin Jones and Justin Pearson joined thousands of Tennesseans in a protest in support of gun control laws.¹

In retaliation, the far-right Tennessee House of Representatives voted to expel Jones and Pearson—who are both young, Black progressives—from the state house, robbing their constituents of representation at a critical moment.²

This is nothing short of a far-right, racist, authoritarian attack on democracy. 

To fight back, MoveOn is raising funds for local Tennessee grassroots organizations committed to protecting democracy and advancing justice.

After being wrongfully expelled, Representative Jones said, "Rather than address the issue of banning assault weapons, my former colleagues—a Republican supermajority—are assaulting democracy."³

He's exactly right. 

We cannot let this extremism go unchallenged. And one of the best ways to combat the right-wing's fascism is to ensure that the organizers on the ground in Tennessee have the resources to fight back.

Memphis For All is fighting for an economy that works for all of us, instead of one rigged for corporations and against Black and brown people and for a legal system that treats everyone fairly. 

The Tennessee Immigrant & Refugee Rights Coalition is dedicated to building local power, amplifying immigrant and refugee voices, and organizing communities to advocate for immigrant and refugee rights.
