A major development emerged from Washington, D.C. yesterday: President Biden announced the framework for the historic Build Back Better Act.1 Today—and the week ahead—will determine if this transformative legislation is passed into law.
This extraordinary package includes investments that working families need—like expanding health care coverage, access to free high-quality preschool, elder care, affordable housing, and extending the Child Tax Credit—all while ensuring the ultra-wealthy pay their fair share in taxes.
Democrats are poised to pass the biggest expansion of support for our communities in a generation. But first we need to finalize the deal. Until Senators Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema and a handful of corporate House Democrats affirm their unequivocal support for the Build Back Better Act, we don't know if the investments we've been waiting on will finally become law. The entire House Democratic caucus needs to hear overwhelming support for passing this agenda.
Will you call Representative Jamie Raskin at 888-894-1033 and urge him to formalize the Build Back Better deal and deliver investments in care, climate, and immigration for our communities—and ensure Congress passes both Build Back Better and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal together?
We wouldn't be where we are today without MoveOn members who have taken action daily to hold the line on passing President Biden's entire Build Back Better Agenda into law, inspired by the leadership of Representative Pramila Jayapal and the Congressional Progressive Caucus.
For months, we've kept up the pressure on Congress to deliver on promises of investing in child care and education, tackling the climate crisis, making the ultra-wealthy pay more of their fair share, and so much more.
MoveOn members, like you, have pushed thousands of calls and letters to congressional offices in support of progressive values. MoveOn members have led actions and demonstrations to express the urgency to take action to fully address the many crises facing our communities, especially BIPOC communities. Though there is still work to do, these historic investments are a good start and will deliver real relief. And most recently, together, we effectively reinforced progressives to #HoldTheLine on delivering for working families by ensuring both the bipartisan infrastructure bill and reconciliation package were on track to pass together.
It's easy to get caught up in the legislative process, rather than keep focused on the life-changing impact that legislation will make once it passes. After a whirlwind of negotiations, we've made a lot of progress, and now we need to make sure this historic legislation gets through the finish line! We can't move forward on Build Back Better or the infrastructure package until the deal is finalized and all Democrats—especially Senators Manchin and Sinema—affirm their support. With such narrow margins of error in Congress, we need to ensure everyone is on board to prevent additional cuts at the hands of corporate Democrats seeking to protect their special interests.
Call Rep. Raskin at 888-894-1033 to encourage him to deliver for his constituents by finalizing the deal and then voting to pass the Build Back Better Act.
