| Pamela, For years, Ohio Republicans have pushed an avalanche of bills explicitly designed to keep people from getting abortion. When these bills get passed into law, they add up to nearly insurmountable barriers. The healthcare system is confusing enough to navigate for medical care that isn't under legal assault from state legislatures. The laws that restrict distance, cost, time, and information to abortion confuse people. They scare people. They often push care out of reach for people of color, people with low incomes, people who live in rural Ohio. Once someone jumps through all these unnecessary and cruel hoops to schedule an abortion, they have to face harassment at the clinic from leaders and members of the Catholic Conference of Ohio. The Catholic Church harasses clinics in Ohio every day in the name of God. A group of activists recently put their bodies on the line to tell the Catholic Church and the state of Ohio this kind of harassment and violence is immoral—and now the state is filing criminal charges against these nonviolent protesters. Can you chip in $5 to help these folks on the front lines? All funds will go directly towards their legal fees. To stand up for Ohioans, activists and organizers held a brief, non-violent action during a public anti-abortion gathering held at the St. Joseph Cathedral in Columbus, Ohio. They let the church know that this kind of terrorization is unacceptable. Now the church and the state are attempting to silence their voices by filing criminal charges against these activists. These activists put their bodies on the front lines to protect Ohioans who need abortion care. If you can afford to, can you show your support by donating to their legal fees? Thanks for supporting folks on the ground doing the important work. Mike Phelan Progress America |
