| After record turnout in the 2020 election, Republican-held legislatures are now doing everything in their power to make it harder to vote. By weaponizing Donald Trump's disinformation about voter fraud, legislatures in states like Georgia, Iowa, and Arizona are now passing voter suppression laws at warp speed. In fact, a recent report by the Brennan Center for Justice found that 253 bills aimed to restrict voting access have been introduced in 43 states in 2021 alone. If Congress doesn't act quickly to protect voting access, millions of Americans may lose their right to vote-by-mail or vote absentee, at the same time the number of early voting days and ballot drop boxes are drastically cut. What can we do? We can start by passing the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, which will help restore and protect voting rights. Will you sign on to demand Congress protect voters' rights by passing the John Lewis Voting Rights Act? Our country has a long, fraught history when it comes to voter suppression – something the late Congressman John Lewis knew all too well. That's why 56 years ago – during the height of the Civil Rights movement – Congress passed the Voting Rights Act, which aimed to protect the votes of people of color by making discriminatory voting practices illegal. Unfortunately, in 2013, the Supreme Court's Shelby County v Holder decision essentially gutted the Voting Rights Act. Now, it's up to us to restore it. Help the John Lewis Voting Rights Act gain momentum by adding your name to our petition >> Thank you! -- Every. Single. Vote. |
