| Joe Biden and Kamala Harris: "We haven't given up on Medicare for All. With millions going uninsured during the pandemic-fueled downturn, it's clearer than ever that healthcare can't depend on employment." | Friend, More than 40 million people have lost their jobs during the pandemic, and millions of those have lost their health insurance at the same time. Joe Biden, the Democratic nominee for President, doesn't support Medicare for All. But things have changed since last June. Biden's plan, while an improvement on the current system, would still leave newly unemployed people scrambling to fill out paperwork to enroll in the Public Option, waiting for it to be processed, and hoping they don't get sick in the meantime. In a pandemic, that bureaucracy can be deadly. Support for Medicare for All has risen dramatically since Joe Biden clinched the Democratic nomination in March. We call on him to recognize this and fight for Medicare for All! Democratic leadership has been stubborn to recognize that leaving our healthcare at the mercy of our employers is dangerous. When the Ways & Means Committee held hearings on Rep. Pramila Jayapal's Medicare for All bill this spring, Chairman Richard Neal―nominally a Democrat―refused to even allow members to use the phrase "Medicare for All."1 Sen. Kamala Harris―Biden's pick for Vice President―was an original cosponsor of the Senate Medicare for All bill in 2018. She wrote at the time:2 I am so grateful my mother had Medicare, and I will fight for it to be guaranteed to all. I was among the first senators to sign on to the Medicare for All bill when it was introduced last year. There should be nothing partisan about wanting a system where health coverage and care are based not on how much money you have or where you live. We need a system with the goal of good outcomes rather than the goal of high profits. It would save countless lives, and according to recent studies, could trim as much as $5 trillion in health care costs over 10 years. Sen. Harris' words are even truer now than they were when she wrote them. With 40 million people on the verge of being kicked out of their homes, and the USPS under attack, American's can't afford to wait by the mailbox for their forms to be processed. Sign now: Tell Joe Biden and Kamala Harris that we still need Medicare for All! Thanks, Mike Phelan Progress America
