| Tell Mitch McConnell: "Honor John Lewis' legacy and bring the Voting Rights Advancement Act to a floor vote." | Friend, The Civil Rights battles of the 1960s weren't so long ago. Today is the 55th Anniversary of the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. It's also iconic actress Michelle Yeoh's birthday. She's 58. In 2013, the Supreme Court decided that racism and voter suppression were a thing of the past, and handed down the horrific Shelby v. Holder decision, striking down key parts of the Voting Rights Act. Congress can fix this―Voter suppression is getting worse, not better. We need to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act TODAY! The House already passed the VRRA―but Mitch McConnell is letting it sit on his desk, because Mitch is scared that Republicans can't win a fair election. At some point, the Republican Party decided it would be better to stop people from voting than to try to earn their votes. That's disgraceful. TELL THE SENATE: Hold a vote on the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act TODAY! In solidarity, Mike Phelan Progress America |
