Wisconsin Voters to the Rescue!

We flipped the Wisconsin Supreme Court!

Dear MoveOn member,

We did it! Wisconsin voters have chosen Judge Janet Protasiewicz to safeguard abortion access and protect their elections and their freedoms—and tens of thousands of MoveOn members voted and volunteered to make that happen. For the first time in 15 years, liberals hold the majority on the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

On the same night, Brandon Johnson—a powerful progressive voice committed to transformational change—was elected mayor of Chicago. MoveOn members in Chicago endorsed Johnson by an overwhelming margin and turned out in droves to contribute to his victory.

For Judge Protasiewicz, MoveOn members contacted more than 400,000 Wisconsinites through text and phone banks, tabling, and relational organizing (a program to empower Wisconsin voters to reach and turn out their own friends and contacts) to get out the vote. In coordination with allies, we helped bring record levels of enthusiasm to a race to take Wisconsin forward and achieve more balance on the court.

Both races are reminders of what can happen when we use our grassroots muscle, support candidates who respect and reflect our values, and turn out big to vote. That's the same energy we're going to take into 2024 as we prepare to hold the White House, expand our Senate majority, and end Republican control of the House. We'll use the same grassroots power, data-drive targeting and cutting-edge innovation, and commitment to talking about the issues that matter most to us. Wisconsin voters have made the right choice for Wisconsin, as well as for the country. They have protected free and fair elections from the attacks of election deniers in future presidential elections.

In the most expensive Supreme Court race in history, millions of dollars were pumped into Wisconsin by outside groups. That did not stop voters from speaking their minds and turning out in record numbers to reject MAGA Republicans' extreme position on abortion. 

Now we have a real chance to strike down Wisconsin's outrageous 1849 law criminalizing abortion, and to end the gerrymandering that has silenced too many Wisconsinites.

Voters turned out in droves to protect their families, futures, and freedoms in this critical election that will impact our lives and democracy for years to come.

It's a reminder: When we organize, we win. When we lead with our values, we win. And that's why we're going to keep pumping up our people-powered grassroots work through to 2024 while organizing around issues that inspire MoveOn members and voters and impact our lives, from abortion access to fair elections to an economy that works for everyone. It's not lost on us that both of these huge victories occurred on the same day that Donald Trump faced some modicum of accountability in the court of law. We worked to hold Trump accountable—through impeachment, investigations, and elections—before, and we'll do it again. We will continue to demand he is prosecuted for his crimes—including his role in the violent attempt to overthrow the election of 2020. And at the same time, we need to prepare to defeat him electorally—again—along with his MAGA allies in the House and Senate.
