Sign now! Demand that AT&T, GM, and Subway stop funding Fox!
Dear MoveOn member,
Breaking: Tucker Carlson is out of a job.1
The departure of Fox News' leading promoter of white supremacist conspiracy theories comes less than a week after the propaganda outlet agreed to pay nearly $800 million to Dominion Voting Systems—the largest media settlement in history—for spreading lies about the 2020 election results, including lies spread by Carlson himself.2
Fox is on the ropes—now is the time to break its stranglehold on our politics by fundamentally challenging Fox News' whole business model to really damage their bottom line.
There's a lot we don't yet know about Carlson's departure and how it relates to the Dominion lawsuit. It closely follows the departure of Dan Bongino, another right-wing personality who peddled lies and hate on Fox News.3 While their departures are good news, it does not change the issue that big lawsuits do not appear to have changed Fox and their fellow conspiracy theorists' fundamental disconnection from reality.4 But we can change that by pressuring advertisers. With Fox's reputation on the line, this is a prime opportunity to demand that corporate advertisers change course and stop doing business with Fox.
Carlson's ouster doesn't change the fact that Fox News is rotten to the core. For over six years, he was given a platform to spew hate, lies, and racism. Fox News is a far right-wing propaganda machine that will do anything to advance its agenda, while raking in millions and millions of dollars in profits. The entire Fox News network must be held accountable.
In just a couple of weeks, these corporate advertisers will likely be striking new deals with Fox News for the next year. AT&T, General Motors, and Subway have the choice to stop future advertising deals with Fox News or to continue funding the hate and lies that undermine our democracy.
MoveOn members have a long history of confronting Fox's lies and pernicious partisan impact—from forcing advertisers to drop Bill O'Reilly to getting the Democratic Party to stop hosting presidential primary debates on this right-wing network. We'll continue this work— calling out the network's white-supremacism-fueled appeal—and part of it is challenging the very funding model that allows Fox to prop up this disinformation.
Thanks for all you do.
