On Earth Day today, it’s more important than ever to recognize the effects of the climate crisis: The climate crisis is a threat to every child. For kids already living through poverty, inequality, displacement and war, climate disasters only worsen these hardships.
Kayd,* age 9, with his family in Beledweyne, southern Somalia
9-year-old Kayd* is just one of millions surviving through a devastating drought ravaging Somalia. Families in villages like Kayd’s used to draw their livelihood from the land, farming and raising livestock like camels. However, years and years of drought and locust infestations have completely changed their lives. Many have left in hopes of finding water and better land, but Kayd’s family didn’t have the resources to leave.
Thankfully, with the support of generous champions for children like you, we’re able to provide Kayd’s family – and many others – with cash transfers to ensure they can purchase essential items such as food and water
But climate change shows no signs of slowing, and we shouldn’t slow our efforts to help those most affected either. Children deserve to inherit a planet that is safer, healthier and happier than the one we’re leaving behind. That’s why our teams around the globe are actively providing aid to communities impacted by climate-related disasters and helping them build resilience for the future.
From helping families develop more sustainable livelihoods to implementing climate change-focused educational programs, none of this important work for our Earth and our children would be possible without your generosity. So this Earth Day, as we come together to raise awareness and tackle the climate crisis, we’re also thanking you for joining us in the fight for all of our futures.
