Fox News has agreed to pay Dominion Voting Systems $787.5 million in a blockbuster settlement over Fox News' 2020 election lies.1 Here's the truth: Fox settled because its executives knew they would lose even more if the trial went forward. Fox executives and top anchors like Tucker Carlson would have been forced to testify, and they could have ended up owing even more money.2
We can't let Fox get out of this that easily. The network will attempt to move past its lies and sweep this settlement and whole lawsuit under the rug, but they need to face the nation and apologize for its deceit, so the public understands clearly the lies that Fox perpetrated. Fox needs to go a step further and go on-air to acknowledge its role in pushing the lies and conspiracy theories that undermined our democracy. Will you sign the petition to demand that Fox apologize on-air for its lies?
This lawsuit revealed that top Fox News executives knew its anchors were lying to viewers but stayed silent in order to maximize profits and viewership.3 The conspiracy theories they spread instilled distrust in American elections and undermined our democracy. This deceit is unacceptable, and no amount of money will fix it.
This settlement changes nothing about the hate, lies, and right-wing propaganda that Fox News pushes to its viewers every day.4
Fox News claims that this settlement will allow the country to move forward,5 but we are still seeing the impact of the Big Lie to this day, with election deniers running for office and voters having distrust in the electoral process. Fox News needs to do what's right and apologize.
