Re: I have a request

I'm writing to you today to ask you to make a donation to the campaign of Democrat Mandela Barnes, who is running against Republican Ron Johnson for U.S. Senate in Wisconsin.

Dear MoveOn member,

I'm writing to you today to ask you to make a donation to the campaign of Democrat Mandela Barnes, who is running against Republican Ron Johnson for U.S. Senate in Wisconsin.

Let me explain.

In this moment of unprecedented challenges to our country, we need an unprecedented response. We need a movement of people who will fight for democracy and fairness and against greed, oligarchy, authoritarianism, and bigotry. A movement like we have never seen before.

Mandela Barnes is building that kind of movement through his campaign, and if he wins in November, he will continue that fight in the U.S. Senate.

As the son of a public school teacher and UAW assembly line worker, Mandela knows the struggles of the working class. His agenda advances the interests of working families, not the billionaire class.

He isn't taking a dime of corporate PAC money and is relying on small donations from everyday people to fund his campaign. That's why I'm asking you to make a donation to Mandela to help him defeat Ron Johnson in November.

Will you join me in supporting Mandela Barnes and make a $3 donation to his campaign today? 100% of your donation will go directly to his campaign.

Let me tell you a little bit about Mandela's opponent, Ron Johnson.

When Trump's mob was attacking the U.S. Capitol on January 6, Sen. Johnson tried to hand-deliver a list of fake, pro-Trump electors to Vice President Mike Pence as part of an effort to overturn Trump's defeat.1

In response to the Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade, Senator Johnson said making abortion illegal would be "a little messy for some people" but that it isn't "a huge threat to women's health." If you don't like the abortion laws in your state, he said, "you can move." (Never mind that Sen. Johnson also supports legislation to ban abortion nationwide.2)

Sen. Johnson has been one of the biggest proponents of disinformation about COVID-19, promoting "gargling mouthwash" as a treatment for COVID and saying that it "may be true" that COVID vaccines cause AIDS.3,4

There is no more important U.S. Senate race this year than in Wisconsin, and I believe that Mandela Barnes is building the kind of movement necessary to defeat Republican Ron Johnson and his billionaire backers.

So please, if you can afford it, I'm asking you to make a $3 contribution to Mandela Barnes' campaign to help give him the resources he needs to win. 100% of your donation will go directly to his campaign.

Thanks for all you do.

–Bernie Sanders

Donald Trump and his allies are methodically enacting a plan to place some of Trump's most ardent supporters in key election offices that oversee vote counting, have the power to certify—or decertify—election results, and declare election winners and losers.
