Hey, Bradley Whitford here.
Yup, it's that time again. We've got another election coming up -- a really important election.
And nope, this ain't no stinking TV show. The stakes have never been higher, and the consequences are real.
I know. You're tired of hearing that every election is the most important election ever right before you get asked to contribute to a political party. Especially from a guy who wears makeup for a living. I get it.
But it's true. We need your support.
With such slim Democratic majorities in Congress, we can't take anything for granted. We have to roll up our sleeves -- today, right now -- and get to work to protect and expand our majorities.
The Democratic National Committee is the only party organization responsible for electing Democrats at all levels of government, in every corner of the country. They're coming up on a big deadline, so I have to ask:
Will you rush a $25 donation to the DNC before its deadline? Our party is working to ramp up critical programs that Democrats nationwide are relying on to win, but they'll need your support to see it through.
In the past year and a half, Democrats have accomplished some incredible things. Just this month, Joe Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act into law. This landmark legislation includes:
-
The most aggressive action we have taken to address the climate crisis. One that will lower greenhouse gas emissions to 40% below 2005 levels in the next decade and move us toward a more sustainable future for our children; one that protects our planet and reinvigorates our economy for generations to come.
-
Provisions to finally allow Medicare to negotiate the prices of prescription drugs with drug companies AND cap out-of-pocket prescription drug costs for people on Medicare at $2,000. It also strengthens the Affordable Care Act for years to come so that hard-working Americans can have access to the health care coverage they need and deserve.
-
A 15% minimum tax on corporations making $1 billion or more in income, because, yeah, everyone needs to pay their fair share.
As President Obama confirmed, this is, indeed, a "BFD."
All of this was achieved without a single Republican vote and with Republican leaders like Mitch McConnell and Kevin McCarthy working overtime to obstruct Democratic progress at every turn. In fact, the Republican Party is concerned with one thing and one thing only: taking back power in November's midterms.
We can't let that happen.
In this perilous time when the Republican Party offers zero solutions for the challenges we face, we must elect more Democrats to continue to build a better America by supporting President Biden and Vice President Harris's agenda of freedom:
-
The freedom for women to make decisions about their own bodies by codifying Roe and protecting access to contraception.
-
The freedom to marry the people we love by protecting marriage equality.
-
The freedom to treat our delicate planet with care and to invest in the future that our children and our grandchildren deserve.
-
The freedom to make a living wage and to build an economy from the bottom up and the middle out.
-
The freedom to protect our children by enacting common-sense gun legislation like universal background checks.
I could go on.
Look at what the Democrats have achieved in this extraordinarily difficult political moment. Imagine what we could do if we protect and expand our razor-thin majorities in the Senate and the House by fully supporting Democratic candidates all the way down the ballot.
The good news is that, with your help, we are poised to do just that.
What can you do?
That's where this grassroots team comes in: The DNC is investing in the organizing, grassroots infrastructure, and voter protection programs that'll be key to winning in 2022 and beyond -- and they're counting on a few more supporters from your area to chip in ahead of their deadline to keep it all going.
I hope you'll join me and Democrats everywhere in this fight by rushing $25 to the DNC before their deadline.
What's next?
All gas. No brakes. We've got elections to win.
