Pamela, I'm proud to announce the introduction of a new resolution: The Care For All Agenda. The Care For All Agenda calls on our federal government to finally center our care workers in our economy — including guaranteeing care workers good wages and benefits, workplace protections and the right to unionize — and to place care and care work front and center as we emerge from the coronavirus pandemic. If you agree with me and believe that we need to invest in our care workers like they've invested in us for so long, will you add your name here in support of my resolution? I'm incredibly passionate and proud of this particular piece of legislation because care is universal. Everyone gives and receives care, and will need care at some point in their lives. It's an intersectional issue that includes workers' rights, women's rights, disability rights, racial justice, and climate justice. It's directly tied to our work in becoming a nation based on justice, compassion, and livable wages for all. As this resolution came together, here were the guiding principles: - Care work is the foundation of our economy and our society. It is what keeps our country running and protects the most vulnerable, like our children, seniors, and people with disabilities.
- Historically, care workers in America have been disproportionately Black and brown women and immigrants. We must confront the historical oppression that injustice in care work perpetuates.
- Investing in care work will improve all aspects of our society. Expanding and transforming care work will improve racial and gender justice, our environment and response to the climate crisis, and our economy.
Simply put, the importance of care work must be reflected in how workers are treated and the investment of the federal government. This resolution is a tangible, immediate step towards achieving that goal. With my Care For All Agenda, Pamela, we finally have an opportunity to finally build the care work infrastructure that can help us all thrive and face the challenges of the 21st century — creating millions of good, green care jobs in the process. Will you add your name if you're with me in support of this resolution? More soon. Peace and love! Jamaal Bowman |
