Tell Congress: "The coronavirus pandemic is getting much worse, as cases are soaring across America. Yet Donald Trump is abandoning the fight against covid-19. We urge you to step in and take control -- pass a strong coronavirus bill that will defeat the pandemic and support working people!" | White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows just said that the administration is "not going to control the pandemic." According to Donald Trump's right-hand man, the government is just giving up on doing what every other developed country has managed to do—mitigate the spread of coronavirus. And Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell seems to be in agreement, as he adjourned the Senate until after the election without a vote on a coronavirus bill. The government does not get to just give up on its people, and the election doesn't mean all work comes to an end. Congress will need to meet again after November 3 to work on a government funding bill, and we need them to pass a good coronavirus bill that actually addresses the pandemic and helps working people. Sign the petition: demand that Congress get back to work on tackling the pandemic! Nearly 9 million people have suffered from the coronavirus in the U.S. so far, and 226,000 people have died from it. Now epidemiologists are saying that a third wave of the virus has begun, and hospitalizations and infections are spiking across the nation. 70,000 people become infected every day. In Europe, which is also experiencing a new wave, governments have sprung into action. Ireland locked down. Italy closed all bars and restaurants, and Spain declared a state of emergency. But here at home, Donald Trump and Mike Pence are holding maskless rallies of thousands of people. Meadows said that the focus is now solely on the vaccine and treatment, which could be months or years away. And the Senate has refused to pass legislation to help pay for PPE, support front-line workers, and protect the people who are out of work due to the coronavirus.8 It's a travesty, and we're not going to let it pass quietly. Congress must return to work to pass a continuing budget resolution, and we're urging our representatives to pass a good coronavirus relief bill that supports small businesses and workers rather than Wall Street and fossil fuel companies. Now is the time to raise a public outcry and let them know that "we've given up" is just not an option. Add your name and tell Congress: Pass good coronavirus legislation ASAP! Thanks, Team Progress |
