They’re watching you. I’m referring here not to the FBI, the CIA, or the NSA, but to the group that poses the most immediate threat to the quality of our lives: The Republican majority in the U.S. House of Representatives. Will you pitch in $1 before the Mid-Year Deadline at midnight on Friday to stop them in their tracks? The Republicans are on course to degrade our environment, deprive tens of millions of Americans of affordable health care, diminish the rights of racial and ethnic minorities, women, and LGBT people, and -- contrary to the campaign rhetoric of their leader -- exacerbate inequality. But many of them are very nervous. They understand that it is one thing to threaten to do all these things as the opposition, but much more politically dangerous to actually accomplish them now that they are in total control of the government. That nervousness about the electoral impact of their agendas is the reason things are not going nearly as smoothly for them as they had hoped, and we had feared -- which is why they are watching closely to see how we are reacting. The more vigorously we show our determination to make them pay a price at the polls for their assault on our values, the harder it will be for their most right-wing elements to keep them in line. And nothing will be more important in doing this than the results the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee will report for the quarter that ends on June 3O. The DCCC is doing a great job preparing for the 2O18 midterm elections -- the first chance the voters will have to give their verdict on Trump’s antics. If the report is a good one -- both in total amount raised, and number of people contributing, Republican members will definitely take notice. So, I am very glad that they are watching.
