Pamela,
For decades, Starbucks presented itself as a progressive, socially conscious corporation. But like so many greedy corporations, CEO pay has increased while workers are struggling. Now, CEO Brian Niccol makes 6,666 times what the average Starbucks worker makes.
Since December 2021, more than 12,000 Starbucks workers nationwide unionized with Starbucks Workers United. But rather than negotiating with the union in good faith to negotiate a fair contract, Starbucks decided to shutter 400 stores – including 59 union locations.
For decades, Starbucks workers have served us. Now, it's time to help them out. There are three critical ways to help support them:
-
Delete the Starbucks app from your phone
-
Do not make purchases at Starbucks for the duration of the strike
-
Send a message to Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol and let him know you stand with the workers.
Brian Niccol made $96 million his first year with the company and his solutions to these issues is to close stores and add AI to every step of the process, while ramping up on (illegal) union busting. All the while, workers are facing short staffing, unpredictable scheduling, low pay, and rising health care costs.
Labor unions have always fought for their rights, and this one is no exception. It's time to stand in solidarity with Starbucks workers in their fight to turn Starbucks into a fair workplace.
Tell Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol that you're deleting the Starbucks app and will not cross the picket line when Starbucks workers are on strike!
In solidarity,
Mike Phelan
