But Republicans are refusing to come to the table. If they refuse to act, more than 10 million people will lose their health insurance, dozens of rural hospitals will close, and insurance premiums will more than double for 22 million people who receive their health care through the Affordable Care Act.1 Donald Trump and his MAGA Republicans know that their attacks on health care are deeply unpopular, which is why they are desperately scrambling to come up with lies and excuses to blame Democrats for the shutdown.
