Notice anything in common with the states they chose to cancel projects in? The reality is Trump told us exactly who he would target in the event of a shutdown, saying, "A lot of good can come down from shutdowns, we can get rid of a lot of things that we didn't want, and they'd be Democrat things." Republicans are using the shutdown to unilaterally push through their unpopular, cost-raising policies. Meanwhile, they continue to blame Democrats for the shutdown they caused. With control of the Oval Office, House, and Senate, they must take responsibility for the shutdown they caused and return to the negotiation table. This is just one brazen example of what Trump and Republicans are willing to do while Democrats fight to make life more affordable for everyday Americans. Trump's shutdown now pushes already understaffed agencies like FEMA and NOAA past the breaking point, leaving families at risk in the middle of hurricane and fire season. And the consequences don't stop there: Millions could lose flood insurance coverage under the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). The EPA will halt the oversight of clean air and water protections, leaving communities vulnerable to pollution. National Parks will face dangerous conditions without on-site staff. Trump and Republicans are making a calculated and cruel choice: shut down the government, threaten mass firings, and put billionaire donors first while Americans pay the price.
