Pamela: While Win Without War supports servicemembers through campaigns letting them know their options if they receive illegal orders — whether they're deployed in the Caribbean or on our city streets — the difficult truth is that this work has created new risks for our small team of 10.
Trump recently threatened six lawmakers with the death penalty.[1] Why? For supporting servicemembers who uphold their oath to the Constitution by refusing illegal orders.
It's the same message we've been amplifying through a series of billboards in six cities across four different states — and it's created incredible risk for our organization in a moment when nonprofits like ours are already under attack.
Far-right influencers have recently targeted Win Without War for placing these billboards, stirring up right-wing media coverage on Breitbart and infowars, along with a flood of hateful comments on social media.
Let us be clear: we're not backing down. But with each new campaign comes new risk assessments, legal consultations, and digital security work — all of which take up precious staff time and resources. It's not flashy work like our billboards, but it's critical if we're going to ramp up our campaign and end Trump's illegal bombings.
