| Petition to Congress: We urge you to stop U.S. military aggression against Venezuela, Mexico, and other countries in Latin America. |
Trump is launching his next phase of military operations against Venezuela, escalating tensions and the chances that the U.S. launches a ground war in the Latin American country.
The White House designated Nicolas Maduro and officials in his government as members of a foreign terrorist organization, paving the way for more aggressive military operations. Trump said calling Maduro a terrorist allows the U.S. to strike the Venezuelan president's assets and infrastructure in the country. U.S. warships, a nuclear submarine, and an aircraft carrier with F-35 jets are already moving towards Venezuela.
A new CBS poll shows that 70% of Americans oppose war with Venezuela. Congress must stand with the majority and use its constitutional war powers to stop Trump.

The threat of war is so serious that Trump's FAA issued a travel warning last week, telling airlines of a "potentially hazardous situation" while flying over Venezuela. Three international airlines cancelled flights.
The new CBS poll also showed that 76% of Americans say Trump hasn't even adequately explained why his administration is pursuing aggressive military action against the Maduro government. So when an administration official said, "President Trump is prepared to use every element of American power to stop drugs from flooding into our country and to bring those responsible to justice," the vast majority of Americans aren't buying this justification for war with Venezuela.
Trump's strikes on at least 21 boats in the Caribbean, killing 83 people, have been widely denounced by human rights organizations and members of both parties in Congress as extrajudicial killings violating international law.
Only Congress has the constitutional power to declare war; lawmakers must use this authority to stop Trump.
