Once again Florida demonstrated that we have secure, well-run elections! Pamela, with our state primary taking place this past Tuesday, I wanted to take a moment to provide a recap of what we observed.
I also want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the election workers and election protection volunteers who dedicated their time and effort to this critical process. Their hard work is essential in making our democracy function smoothly and ensuring that it remains inclusive and accessible to all. Your commitment is truly appreciated and makes a significant difference in our democratic system.
Common Cause's Election Protection work empowers and supports voters and communities who have been historically disenfranchised and underrepresented in our democracy>>>
Sign up to make an impact in November
Every election year Election Protection works hard to ensure all voters can cast a ballot freely, fairly, and securely, and I wanted you to see what can be accomplished when we work together. During Florida's August Primary this year:
-
23 Voting Rights Legal Monitors were ready for real-time rapid response in 9 counties and evaluated 146 polling locations for accessibility to voters with disabilities.
-
Our new Haitian-Creole Voter Assistance Line was live for all of Early Voting and Election Day!
With 74 days until the General Election, it's on us to work together to help stop voter suppression in Florida, Pamela. When we work together, we can help voters vote and now is the time for us to continue to take action.
As we reflect on the primary, it's clear that our collective efforts have yielded results. However, the fight against voter suppression is far from over. Here are some issues we encountered during the primary:
-
Aggressive electioneering inside and outside of the 150ft "no solicitation" zone
-
Poor signage at polling locations leading to voters not being sure where to go
-
Voter confusion about when and where to drop off their vote-by-mail ballot or where to vote in person on Election Day
-
Police presence at polling locations, which can be intimidating for voters
Together, our commitment and action are crucial in ensuring that every voice is heard and every vote counts. Let's keep working side by side to protect our democratic rights and make a lasting impact.
As we look toward the General Election in November, we are continuing to do this essential work, but we can't do it without you, Pamela. That's why Common Cause and the Florida Election Protection Coalition are recruiting, training, and deploying hundreds of volunteer, Nonpartisan Poll Monitors in Florida!>>>>
Looking forward to seeing new and familiar faces!
Thanks for all you do,
Abeni Davies, Outreach and Engagement Manager
and the team at Common Cause Florida
P.S. It takes a lot to run these programs and our ability to show up and show out will depend on what you and I do in the next 75 days . Please consider chipping in today>>
