| Pamela, The Supreme Court of the United States has a majority that was appointed by Presidents who took office following a popular vote loss. And because justices can strategically time their retirements, that majority will last until a Justice dies at an inopportune time. The current Supreme Court is making a mockery of the Constitution. They've gutted the plain text of the Voting Rights Act, ignored the clear language in the disqualification clause of the 14th Amendment to allow Donald Trump to unconstitutionally seek the presidency, and given a green light for corporations to bribe politicians. But because the Supreme Court is a lifetime appointment, all we can do is hope Democrats can hold the Senate and Presidency when Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito die. Actuarial tables shouldn't have a greater impact on our laws than the Constitution. But that's where we are. Sign now: Demand Congress pass the TERM Act and set 18-year terms for the Supreme Court! Political outcomes shouldn't be reliant on when politicians in robes die. That leads our country to dark places. The TERM Act would turn the temperature down on each Supreme Court nomination, and ensure that we don't end up with a single-term popular vote loser (like Donald Trump's 3 appointees) naming more Justices than a 2-term winner (like Barack Obama's two). Sign now: We need term limits for Supreme Court justices! Thank you, Mike Phelan Progress America |
