Dear MoveOn member,
Donald Trump opened his first campaign rally of 2024 by glorifying the horrific violence of January 6, 2021.1
He started the rally with a song by the "J6 Choir"—as in January 6, 2021, the insurrection. It's a "choir" of jailed insurrectionists singing "The Star Spangled Banner."2
That's where our country stands three years after Trump's attempted coup—and with Trump poised to trounce his Republican opponents in the presidential primary and leading President Joe Biden in most general election polls.3,4
Trump calls the more than 1,200 people who have been arrested for their roles in the insurrection "patriots" and "hostages" and has promised "full pardons with an apology," including for the more than 700 insurrectionists who have pleaded guilty.5,6
Trump has gone so far as to say "the cops should be charged, and the protesters should be freed."7
Remember the images of intense violence from that day—the guns, lead pipes, baseball bats, and flagpoles wielded as clubs? Or the noose hanging from gallows erected outside the Capitol?8 Five Capitol police officers lost their lives as a result of the attack, and more than 140 were injured—some with life-altering brain injuries, and others with shattered spines.9
When asked specifically if he'd pardon people convicted of assaulting Capitol police officers, Trump replied, "[M]any of those people are very innocent people. They did nothing wrong."10
Andra, we cannot allow a vengeful and emboldened Trump who is telling us he'll be "a dictator on Day 1" to win reelection.
We need to listen to what Trump and MAGA Republicans are telling us they plan to do—and believe them.
On Sunday, Representative Elise Stefanik—who chairs the House Republican Conference—declined to commit to certifying 2024 election votes. When asked if she would "vote to certify the results of the 2024 election, no matter what they show," she replied, "We will see if this is a legal and valid election."11
Trump has refused to sign a pledge that's part of the process to get on the ballot in Illinois that he won't attempt to overthrow the government. He signed the same pledge in 2016 and 2020.12
Backed by millions of members, powerful analytics, and top-notch political campaigners, MoveOn has a long track record of engaging millions of voters and turning them out to vote. A scientific analysis shows that MoveOn turned out 50,000 additional voters in swing districts and states in the 2022 midterm elections.13 50,000 voters! That's a huge number for the midterm elections and at a time when races in our divided country are often decided by a tiny fraction of the votes cast.
Together we defeated Trump in 2020, and together we stopped the "red wave" in 2022. We can do it again this year—and this time defeat Trump once and for all. But we need your financial support to start that work right now.
Thanks for all you do.

Want to support MoveOn's work? Book bans have skyrocketed thanks to right-wing state laws which have forced teachers to remove books from their classrooms. In response, MoveOn is launching a "Banned Bookmobile," filling it with books that the far right has banned, and driving it around to hand out those books, for free, in highly trafficked areas that will attract media attention. To keep the Banned Bookmobile up and running into 2024, we need your help.
