We need to expose the GOP's impeachment efforts for what they are: a politically motivated attempt to reelect Donald Trump.
Sign now: Demand House Republicans drop their nonsense impeachment investigation into President Biden!
Dear MoveOn member,
"The dysfunction caucus at work," "clown show," "foolishness," "terribly misguided," "failure to lead," "new low." These are some of the ways congressional Republicans have described the actions of other members of their own party over the past few weeks.1 And they are absolutely right.
The federal government is about to run out of money, causing a shutdown, which has the potential to cause deep financial pain for millions of Americans.2 And yesterday, instead of coming to the table to negotiate in good faith to keep it open, House Republicans showed where their priorities lie and held the first impeachment hearing against President Biden.
Despite nine months of ongoing investigations into President Biden, even their star witness Jonathan Turley, a Donald Trump loyalist and paid Fox News contributor, couldn't get on board with the hearing, saying, "I do not believe that the current evidence would support articles of impeachment."3 A senior Republican aide called the first hearing "an unmitigated disaster."4
In order to distract from twice-impeached, four-times-indicted former President Trump's criminal charges and their own failing party, Republicans are pushing for Biden's impeachment—despite zero evidence or proof of wrongdoing. Impeaching President Biden is part of the GOP's insidious strategy to distract voters from the MAGA shutdown, vilify Biden, and pave the way for Trump to take back the White House in 2024. Trump has even been pushing his close allies to impeach Biden, directing the entire charade from the sidelines.
MAGA Republicans continue to ram through their bogus efforts to impeach President Biden despite zero evidence of wrongdoing. Without the consent of a full House vote, Speaker Kevin McCarthy directed three congressional committees to open a formal impeachment inquiry into President Biden.5 Now, just two days before the government is going to shut down, Representative James Comer, chairman of the Committee on Oversight and Accountability, held his first hearing on the impeachment inquiry. Their priorities couldn't be further from everyday Americans' needs.
Monthslong Republican efforts to find any reason to impeach Biden have been an "abject failure."6 Because the dirt doesn't exist. But they're not letting reality stop them from carrying on the charade, because they'll do anything to grub for political power, no matter the cost to the rest of us.
While some MAGA lawmakers see abusing the impeachment process as a way to score points with Trump, Republicans who won narrowly in 2022 see this as the thing that could cost them their jobs.7 In the 1990s, the Republican impeachment of Bill Clinton led to a backlash that cost them at the ballot box. That's probably why McCarthy announced the inquiry without a full floor vote—so he could avoid putting those Republicans who are in tight reelection races on record supporting a made-up impeachment attempt.
Add your name to show the overwhelming opposition to impeaching Biden and stop this sham inquiry before it progresses to an impeachment vote. Sign the petition and then share with three friends and family members!
Thanks for all you do.

Want to support MoveOn's work? Book bans have skyrocketed thanks to right-wing state laws which have forced teachers to remove books from their classrooms. In response, MoveOn is launching a "Banned Bookmobile," filling it with books that the far right has banned, and driving it around to hand out those books, for free, in highly trafficked areas that will attract media attention. To keep the Banned Bookmobile up and running into 2024, we need your help.
