It's Chris, Beto's Communications Director. I thought you might want to see what we're able to do thanks to the 124,000+ grassroots donors who've generously pitched in to our campaign.
Last weekend, Beto, Amy, and our team got in the truck and headed back down to the Rio Grande Valley for another big weekend of connecting with supporters and mobilizing voters ahead of the Texas primaries on March 1st.
On Friday, we knocked on doors in Brownsville to talk about early voting, while thousands of Team Beto volunteers did the same thing in communities all across the state. We also celebrated Charro Days at the Baile del Sol festival!
This festival is a historic celebration of the shared heritage between Brownsville and the neighboring Mexican city of Matamoros. There are games, parades, food stands, costume contests, and even a taco eating contest.
At a time when Abbott is using border communities as a prop in a dangerous effort to scare people and divide us, and after he took thousands of Texas Guard members away from their families for a political stunt that puts enormous stress on them as their pay has been delayed, it was wonderful to be part of celebrating the pride, unity, resilience, and joy of Brownsville.
We also held "Vote with Beto/¡Vota con Beto!" events in San Benito, Mission, and other communities where we rallied with voters before they walked over to the polls. (By the way, Early Voting ended today, but if you're a registered Texas voter who wants to cast a ballot on Election Day this Tuesday, you can find your polling place at vote.betofortexas.com)
And we also held events in Harlingen and Laredo where we continue to come back to. As always, we were inspired by the energy of folks in the community, who are working so hard to make things better for each other and for the rest of this state.
All in all, we got voters to the polls, talked to many at their doors, and drew local press coverage all across the RGV and South Texas as Beto shared his positive vision of investing in border communities instead of villainizing them. In just a single weekend, we significantly strengthened Beto's support in a region of Texas that is too often overlooked and taken for granted.
Every dollar you can invest in our campaign will help Beto stay on the road until November and do the same thing in every part of Texas. It's how we're going to beat Greg Abbott's voter suppression, and overcome his $50 million in the bank.
Whether you're in a place to contribute today or not, we are unbelievably grateful for your support. Together, we're making history in Texas.
Thanks for helping to make it all possible,
Chris Evans
Communications Director, Beto for Texas
