I met with Betsie and Jon today to thank them for their past support of our campaigns and to tell them about Powered by People.
Betsie is a top-rated seller on Ebay and she and Jon also customize Chuck Taylor shoes. Ademas, Jon has been known to DJ.
She told me she likes what we're doing and is on board when it comes to our plan to bring thousands of volunteer canvassers together to help win critical state house races in Texas.
But what was really exciting to her was the social dynamic of our effort. The fact that Powered by People builds community among the volunteers who sign up in these races. We talked about how, when we sit down to share a meal and a beer after a long day of knocking on doors, we develop camaraderie among the canvassers that persists long after the campaign concludes. This is hard work, but it's also fun.
It's the antidote to the despair and isolation that so many of us feel in the age of Trump. It gives us connection and purpose and encourages us to answer the call when we're asked to volunteer in the next race.
At the end of our conversation we took a picture together and said our goodbyes. This evening I learned that Betsie later went online to poweredxpeople.org and made a very generous contribution.
Thanks to supporters like Betsie and Jon, we are able to bring the power of people to bear at this important moment in our country's life.
We are grateful to them, to you, and everyone who makes this possible.
Beto
