Pamela, I want to share some good news with you.
If you've been a part of Common Cause for a while, you know that every election year, we mobilize thousands of Election Protection volunteers.
And if you're new – first of all, we're glad to have you! I'm so excited to tell you more – because Election Protection is one of the most powerful things we do here to defend and strengthen American democracy.
Every election year, thousands of ordinary folks across the country volunteer their time and energy to serve with Common Cause as a nonpartisan poll monitor.
They tap into our nationwide network of voting rights experts – who train them on the specific voting rules for their community, and give them a direct line to our legal team so we can take swift action to solve any problems voters face.
And here's the exciting part, Pamela: even though we're 13 months away from the 2026 elections, we're seeing a level of volunteer interest that surpasses even what we saw in summer 2024.
It's easy to see why – free and fair elections are something we cannot take for granted under this new Trump administration.
He's passing policies like healthcare cuts to fund billionaire tax breaks, that he knows he can't convince the American people to get behind.
He's bringing back his long-discredited conspiracy theories about the 2020 election – and with them, the voter suppression policies meant to silence us.
And he's ramping up his attacks on any and all political opposition – twisting the real problem of political violence into a one-sided partisan pretext to crack down on groups that disagree with him.
Simply put, he isn't governing like the leader of a democracy who knows he'll have to answer to voters – but a dictator who thinks our country's final free and fair elections are already behind us.
Pamela, that's not something we're going to give up easily.
And because we're so far out from November 2026, whatever amount you can give now will have a much greater impact than this time next year.
Our Election Protection program runs from the first primary, through early voting and election day until the last vote is counted. It's a massive operation and we expect next year's threats to require an unprecedented amount of time and resources.
If we get to work right now, we can identify problems before they create long lines or outages on election day – and work with local election officials using our nationwide network of voting experts to solve them.
It costs about $50 to train and place an Election Protection volunteer – so I'm asking you today if you will sponsor just one of these volunteers (or however many you can.)
For just $50, you will make an immediate, measurable impact on these uncertain voters – and ensure that we can live up to our ideal of a democracy where EVERY voice matters, no matter what. Can we count on your action today?
Pamela, there's no two ways about it – the enemies of democracy are already hard at work. That means Common Cause needs to be as well, and with your help, we'll get it done.
We appreciate your support,
The team at Common Cause
