Pamela,
On August 30th, Trader Joe's fired beloved crew member Millie Lugo at the Essex Crossing store in Manhattan. Why? Because she dared to do something every worker has a right to do: talk with her coworkers about working conditions.
Management admitted the truth in writing – disciplining Millie simply because she "expressed dissatisfaction with the leadership team." That's retaliation, plain and simple.
After that, things escalated: suddenly her attendance became an issue, she was denied a raise, and managers piled on with cruel, bullying comments like "nobody likes you" and that she would "crash and burn."
This is not just unprofessional – it's illegal. Trader Joe's United has already filed charges under Section 7 of the National Labor Relations Act. But now, we need to show corporate that the public is watching and that retaliation against workers will not be tolerated.
But we can't do it without your support. The voice of the people is powerful in the eyes of corporate leadership. Will you take a moment to demand they apologize and reinstate Millie today?
Our demands are simple:
-
Reinstate Millie Lugo at Essex Crossing;
-
End all unlawful retaliation against workers;
-
Work with crew members to stop targeting those who speak up.
Millie's story is not isolated. From Jamie Edwards, our founding union president fired on May Day, to countless other crew members facing discipline for standing up, Trader Joe's is trying to send a message: stay silent, or else.
Together, we can send a louder one back: workers have rights, and we won't let management trample them. Will you take action alongside us today?
In solidarity,
Trader Joe's United
