Dear MoveOn member,
Donald Trump is dismissing the public uproar over cuts to essential services and public safety at Republican town halls as the work of "paid troublemakers."1
Elon Musk called the public outcry "fake protests" and blamed MoveOn.2,3
Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson told House Republicans, who are being confronted all over the country by huge crowds of angry, scared, and frustrated constituents, to skip in-person town halls altogether. He said, "They're professional protesters. So why would we give them a forum to do that right now?"4
That's right, Andra, they think that YOU are a fake protester—or, to put it plainly, they want the media and the public to believe you are in an attempt to shift the narrative away from the grassroots uprising against their cruel and destructive actions. But let's be clear: MoveOn is doing what we have always done and will always do. We're providing members like you with the tools you need to make their voices heard.
Republicans thought we were all going to roll over, throw up our hands, and give up. That's the way tyranny takes root. And it's the whole point of Trump and Musk's chaotic and ruthless "flood-the-zone" approach.
But that's not what is happening. All across the country, people are starting to speak out—federal workers who indiscriminately lost their jobs, senior citizens alarmed at the closures of Social Security offices across the country, families terrified that massive cuts to Medicaid will mean the loss of health care, and so many others of us, speaking our truths in this horrific and uncertain moment.5
One thing is clear, Andra: What we're doing is working. Now, we just need to ramp it way up. EVERY Republican in Congress should be feeling the heat. And Democrats in Congress who are sitting on their hands, acting like all of this is normal, must too.
That's why MoveOn plans to turbocharge our organizing at town hall events, and when Republicans are too scared to hold them, we'll organize protests outside their offices and do everything we can to make our voices heard.
MoveOn has millions of members across the country, including in every congressional district, so we're well positioned to confront members of Congress everywhere and demand they put their foot down. Congress is a coequal branch of government, after all.
But this kind of on-the-ground, district-by-district organizing is incredibly resource intensive. And as a grassroots organization, we need your help to be able to pull it all off.
Can you chip in $5 a month to help us seriously ramp up the town hall events and protests outside the offices of members of Congress and then keep sounding the alarms, organizing, and building toward a future where everyone can thrive?
Yes, I'll chip in $5 a month. If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately.
No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.
Remember that Trump's agenda—taking away our health care, stealing our Social Security checks, stopping lifesaving cancer research, undermining public safety, and much more—is very unpopular. If we organize, speak out, and fight back, there's no way Trump and Musk can get away with cutting the programs we rely on, undermining public safety, and dragging us into authoritarianism. But it's going to take all of us being courageous in this hardest of times.
We got this. Together.
Thanks for all you do.
