Pamela, Every year, thousands of journalists, community advocates, and everyday citizens use public records laws to uncover waste, fraud, and abuse. These laws keep our government honest—but they're under attack right now. In recent years in Florida, lawmakers have been passing legislation to weaken open records laws, making it harder for the public to access government documents. This means: More backroom deals. More corruption hidden from view. Less accountability for those in power. This is our right to know—and we can't afford to lose it. This year, a GOOD public records bill has been filed by Sen Darryl Rouson. SB 1434 would stop government agencies from delaying, denying, or outright ignoring public records requests from Floridians. TAKE ACTION TO SUPPORT OPEN GOVERNMENT Sunshine Week, March 16th - 22nd is about transparency. But transparency doesn't just happen—it's something we have to fight for.
