| Petition to Congress: Pass the Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal and Transparency Act. | Clarence Thomas was just given another free pass. Last week, the top federal judiciary policymaking body declined to refer Justice Thomas's ethics violations to the Department of Justice for further action. After multiple Congressional investigations, Thomas has faced no accountability for his flagrant violations of federal ethics laws. Congress can still take action to stop Thomas's pattern of accepting undisclosed, paid-for luxury vacations with right-wing billionaires, his involvement in webs of conservative dark money benefitting him and his wife, and his failures to recuse himself from cases where he has clear conflicts of interest (including the Trump immunity case). Congress can finally end corruption on the Supreme Court by passing a Supreme Court ethics act. Sign the petition: Tell Congress to pass a SCOTUS ethics act and put an end to Clarence Thomas's ethics scandals. Restore ethical standards to the Supreme Court now! There has been nearly two years worth of reporting on Thomas's decades of scandals. There have been official congressional investigations and Senate subpoenas of his wealthy right-wing benefactors Harlan Crow and Leonard Leo. What Thomas is doing to our judicial system, and to public confidence in the nation's highest court, is devastating. The Supreme Court is supposed to be fair and independent, but actions by Thomas, as well as by all the other conservative Justices on the Court, have cast serious doubts on the legitimacy of SCOTUS. We need Congress to pass this bill to finally create a real, binding code of conduct for our federal courts. Add your name: Pass a Supreme Court ethics act now! |
