For many children living in poverty in rural America, summer break can mean no more regular meals, no friends nearby to play with and zero access to books. For these children, summer isn’t a fun break from school – it’s three months of isolation, hunger and falling behind.
This affects kids’ academic success, physical development, mental health and more. It’s not fair, and it’s a problem we can – and must – fix together.
