Dear MoveOn member,
If there is anything I learned from the last four years, it's these two points:
- Donald Trump will do anything—anything—to regain power.
- Our best defense against Trump's expected coup attempt in 2024 is ensuring free and fair elections.
For those two reasons, I am urgently writing to you today about the two Republicans running for secretary of state in battleground states and whom we must defeat. And why their Democratic opponents, who are standing up for our most core American value—democracy—must win.
As you likely know, in many states, the secretary of state is the single most important position for defending our constitutional right to vote and preventing Trump's next attempt at a coup. And in Nevada and Arizona, two swing states Joe Biden barely won in 2020, we must fight especially hard to keep our elections in the hands of people who believe in honoring the sacred right of voting.
Unfortunately, Steve Bannon, Trump's lead henchman and convicted felon, also sees the importance of these states. For 18 months, he and his dark-money funders have been flooding the airwaves to secure the top elections post in each state. Bannon's candidates—Mark Finchem and Jim Marchant—are some of the worst white supremacist election deniers, in the country.1
Bannon knows—and Trumps knows—that if he gets his picks in these positions, overturning the will of the people in 2024 will be that much easier.
And that is why I need you to make a $3 donation today to help protect our democracy. 100% of your donation will go directly to the campaigns of these candidates' Democratic opponents.
The candidates working to expand and protect access to voting are Democrats Adrian Fontes in Arizona and Cisco Aguilar in Nevada. Both have deep roots in their states and have track records of fighting for the people. And, most importantly, they've made clear that they will do everything in their power to ensure our elections are honest and every vote is counted accurately.
Their opponents, on the other hand …
Republican Mark Finchem in Arizona participated in the insurrection on January 6 and is a member of the white supremacist Oath Keepers. He said the 2020 election was "rigged" and a "fraud."2
Republican Jim Marchant in Nevada openly declares he would not have certified the election results for Joe Biden in 2020. He has said it is "very possible" that he will submit alternate electors in 2024, if he's elected.3
Andra, as you can see, these two must be defeated.
Please join MoveOn and me in our efforts to protect U.S. elections by making a $3 donation that will be split evenly between the two Democrats running in these races. Because even if you don't live in either state, if Bannon steals these elections, we all lose.
Thanks for all you do.

Want to support MoveOn's work? Donald Trump and his MAGA allies are methodically enacting a plan to place some of Trump's most ardent supporters in key election offices that oversee vote counting, have the power to certify—or decertify—election results, and declare election winners and losers. We've launched a powerful, multimillion-dollar campaign to stop Trump. But we need your help to power our effort.
Will you chip in to power our campaign to defeat Trump cronies this November and elect officials who will count each and every vote?
