| Tell President Biden and Congress: "Extend workplace protections to interns, and use the American Jobs Plan to end worker exploitation!" | Pamela, What do you picture when you picture interns? Probably people who are young, rich, and white. Do you know why that is? It's because those are the folks who can afford to work for free. And it perpetuates inequality throughout society. Access to internships is access to elite society―but it's only available to elites. This deprives the rest of us of diverse perspectives, creativity, and achievements. It's holding us all back. But the economics of internships aren't the only problem with them―because there are so few legal regulations around internships, it becomes a way to expose workers to unsafe and intimidating conditions. In fact, outside of New York City, Oregon, and Washington, DC, unpaid workers are not protected against sexual harassment in the workplace. Stand with our friends at Pay Our Interns Action and demand that the Biden Administration protect interns in the American jobs plan! Sign now to call on President Biden and Congress to extend its workplace protections to interns, and end worker exploitation in the American Jobs Plan! Thanks, Mike Phelan Progress America |
