That's long overdue―but it's also insufficient. While we celebrate Juneteenth, we need to recognize that Black history is under attack in schools around the country, as Republicans whip up a moral panic about "critical race theory" and "cancel culture" to undermine recent scholarship about slavery and racism's pervasive role shaping our country's history. If Republicans are successful, schoolchildren will get Juneteenth off, but teachers won't be able to tell them why. We must defend Black history education from the Tucker Carlsons of the world!
