Pamela, Apparently, Donald Trump needs more reminders of a simple fact: he lost the 2020 election. He recently relitigated his defeat in a primetime presidential address, which was a rerun of previously debunked claims, undercut by the very same documents he released as “proof.” Americans see through the lies. Here in Georgia, we certainly know this playbook, because Trump and his allies ran it here first. And we know that his false claims of fraud are really about power — trying to control whose voices get heard, and whose get silenced:
- Trump may have demanded that Georgia leaders “find 11,780 votes.” While they refused to commit treason, the next year they delivered laws to make it harder to vote by mail, register to vote and stay on the rolls, and have that vote counted.
- Trump’s Department of Justice sent federal agents into the elections office in Fulton County, Georgia, and also went after election offices in Arizona and Michigan.
- Now, Trump and his allies want to make their lies into federal law: new barriers between citizens and the ballot, aimed at the same voters who have always had to fight hardest to be heard.
When they come for one of us — they are coming for all of us. A political party that cannot win a fair contest is trying to rig the rules so they cannot lose any more. We must each do whatever we can to fight back for the freedom to vote. Will you make a donation to help Fair Fight Action protect access to the ballot box in 2026 and beyond? Authoritarians are trading democracy for cowardice. Patriots must exchange comfort for courage. Democracy is an action. It is the promise that we will share power even with those we disagree with, because that is the only way we secure a common future. Trump — and every extremist who stands with him — is asking us to give up our right to control our futures. His speech this month was a pretext: escalating an effort to manufacture a legal reason to do something drastic and alter the way the 2026 election is administered. That could mean declaring a national emergency to try to seize control over elections. It could also mean sending ICE or FBI agents to the polls to seize ballots or voting machines. Those tactics may have once felt outlandish, but they’re real possibilities as a deeply unpopular president becomes increasingly desperate to tip the scales in the midterm elections. We can still push back in defense of democracy. Fair Fight Action works tirelessly, day in and day out, to ensure free and fair elections where the will of the people gets heard. Right now, they need support to ramp up this mission for the midterms and beyond. Can you rush a donation of any amount today? Together, we must hold onto our power at the ballot box, where the people, not the politicians, decide. Thank you, Stacey Abrams
