Our U.S. Postal Service is under threat! Will you add your name to the petition?
Dear MoveOn member,
Shawn from RuralOrganizing.org here. Threats facing the U.S. Postal Service are ramping up. Just this past week, news broke that Amazon—USPS's biggest client—is considering cutting ties and not renewing its partnership, which would be a huge financial blow to the Postal Service and would hurt our communities who rely on the USPS for medications, food, voting, and more.1
And it doesn't stop there. Amazon is also considering launching a rival delivery service that would privatize our mail and put the USPS further in crisis.2 This is exactly what Donald Trump wants to happen—to have our Postal Service dismantled and sold to the highest bidder. Amazon would just be laying the groundwork.
Right now, the USPS has the responsibility to serve every single resident in this country equally, regardless of where they live. But a private company wouldn't have that same obligation, which could drive up costs for everyday Americans—not only in rural communities, but small towns too.3
It's as important as ever that we send a clear message that we expect the USPS to remain a public good and that our government fully fund it. More than 56,000 MoveOn members have signed the petition. Will you add your name?
Trump made it clear during his first term that he wanted to dismantle the USPS and privatize it. But there's one major problem: Americans like the post office. In fact, it has a better approval rating than Trump does—by a long shot.4,5 And it's one of the leading trusted brands, ahead of Amazon.6
As it should be. Because Amazon executives have made it clear that, unlike the USPS, they don't care about people. From massive layoffs to worker injuries and deaths, Amazon will exploit workers and cut corners in order to make a profit.7,8 And they already have been accused of misleading customers in order to make a sale.9
We can't leave something as essential as our mail in the hands of Amazon or any other big corporation that puts profits over people.
We rely on the post office for our medications, food, voting, and everyday needs. It's a public service that is supposed to be responsive to us, the people—not to profits. And we have to fight to keep it that way. Add your name to the petition now!
Let's be clear: Privatizing the post office would essentially end guaranteed mail service for every American. And it would hit rural communities the hardest. More than half of USPS offices are in rural areas—and 88% of the land serviced by workers is rural.10 Everyone will eventually feel the impact if our nationwide federal mail service is dismantled.
The USPS has been in a financial crisis for decades, and it faced further hardship when Trump and Elon Musk's DOGE forced the department to cut its workforce by 10,000 earlier this year.11 This is a manufactured crisis—and it's our government's responsibility to fix it. We need to invest more funding into the USPS in order to strengthen and expand its services and increase the number of good union jobs that make it all possible.
What we don't need is for it to be undermined, eroded, and sold out to yet another corrupt corporation that will drive up costs for everyday people in order to make a profit for the already-wealthy few. The USPS belongs to the people, NOT Amazon, and together we can fight to keep it that way.
If you agree, sign the petition to keep the USPS a public good, and then share with three friends to help spread the word.
Thanks for all you do.
