Pamela,
Florida lawmakers opened the door to mid-decade redistricting, a move that could silence communities across our state and violate the Florida Constitution. On December 10, the House Select Committee on Congressional Redistricting is holding another hearing to set the stage for rigging our voting maps before next year's election.
Before legislators walk into that room, they need to hear from you.
Tell the committee members: Don't cheat. Don't break the law. Don't redraw the maps in the middle of the decade.
Drawing new voting maps before the next election in response to President Trump's call for gerrymandering districts nationwide to benefit his own party is illegal in the state of Florida. The people of Florida made it illegal when we passed the Fair Districts Amendments to our state constitution with a 63% vote in 2010.
Florida's maps should reflect our people and our communities, not political ambitions. Allowing lawmakers to reshape districts whenever it benefits them, sets a dangerous precedent and violates public trust.
On Tuesday, December 10 at 9:00am, the House Select Committee on Congressional Redistricting will meet for the second time in Tallahassee to discuss mid-decade redistricting. If you're in or near Tallahassee, your presence in the hearing room matters. When the public shows up, lawmakers notice, and they understand that Floridians are paying attention.
Here's how you can help right now:
Pamela, we've stopped power grabs before because people like you took action at the right moment. This is one of those moments. Your voice matters. Show legislators that Floridians are watching and ready to act.
Thank you for standing up for our democracy,
Franceska Edouard, Florida Organizer
