Dear Pamela,
At their core, unions are about people looking out for each other. And right now, members of CAUSE, the independent union of workers organizing five Amazon warehouses in North Carolina, are working to make the holidays magic for their fellow Amazon workers who couldn't otherwise afford holiday gifts for their kids.
These workers spend all day packing Christmas gifts for other people, but they aren't paid enough to afford gifts for their own families. Can you help?
Can you pitch in to help Amazon workers provide holiday gifts for their families through CAUSE's Holiday Toy Drive? Every dollar will go directly to purchasing toys for families in need of support this year.
Amazon workers struggle every day to stay safe as they work long hours for less than a living wage. And during the holidays, aka "PEAK" in Amazon lingo, their jobs become more dangerous as workers are forced to work longer hours with even larger workloads. The impact on childcare, family schedules and sleep is disruptive and destabilizing.
During the holidays, Amazon workers are still struggling to make ends meet, while having even less time than usual to enjoy the actual holidays–all while working around the clock to pick, sort, and pack millions of holiday gifts for others.
That's where CAUSE comes in. CAUSE members are organizing a toy drive to provide gifts for the children of Amazon workers from several North Carolina warehouses. For workers who can't afford gifts, let alone have the time to shop for them, this toy drive will bring some extra joy to their holiday.
CAUSE is organizing to force Amazon to pay workers a fair wage, so they won't have to rely on a toy drive next year. But in the meantime, we can show workers on the fence about unionization how much better they could have it. This toy drive is an organizing opportunity AND a chance to make Christmas a little brighter for these families.
But CAUSE can't make the magic happen alone. Spread some holiday cheer: chip into their toy drive! Every dollar goes directly to purchasing toys for Amazon workers and their families.
In Solidarity,
The Labor Force
