Pamela: Earlier this year, a fishing boat carrying 11 people had turned back to shore after noticing a U.S. military aircraft on the horizon. U.S. missiles would soon destroy it and kill nearly everyone on board.
Forty-five minutes later, as two survivors clung to the wreckage, another round of missiles would kill them, too.
These extrajudicial killings are no one-off: Under the guise of a "war on drugs," the Trump administration has killed more than 100 people in dozens of attacks in the Caribbean and Pacific since September — with no evidence of wrongdoing nor any congressional authorization.
It could get even worse. Defense Secretary Hegseth has vowed the strikes have "only just begun," and Trump has teased the horrific possibility of land strikes in Venezuela.
But details of the illegality in their plans are emerging. Public opposition is mounting. And powerful members of the Senate Armed Services and House Intelligence Committees have demanded answers. It's all created a crucial opening to push Congress to END Trump's strikes and BLOCK the march toward a war with Venezuela.
Our team is surging in response — working around the clock to ensure elected officials speak up for the pro-peace majority, raise a loud and clear message of "NO WAR" across DC, and remind people everywhere that there are no violence-first solutions to the overdose crisis. But keeping it all up requires incredible resources before the end of the year.

Even as senior officials scramble amidst allegations they've committed murder, Trump is pushing us toward all-out war.
Upon viewing a video of the September 2 strike, Rep. Jim Himes, Ranking Member of the House Intelligence Committee, remarked, "What I saw in that room was one of the most troubling things I've seen in my time in public service."[1]
When Trump's poll numbers dive, he's at his most impulsive and dangerous, so we have to move FAST. We're witnessing the largest U.S. military presence in the Caribbean since the 1989 invasion of Panama. B-52 bombers and attack helicopters have recently flown off the Venezuelan coast, and 10,000 U.S. troops and 2,200 Marines are already stationed on bases and ships nearby.
Millions of lives are at risk, but more endless war is far from a foregone conclusion. This war is a political choice — and we must choose something different.
Because we know what lies ahead if we don't. For decades, a military-first approach to foreign policy has corroded U.S. standing in the world while destroying lives across dozens of borders, including here at home. Today, the Trump administration would graft a splintered, outdated legal infrastructure of endless war in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Yemen, Somalia, and beyond onto a new, lawless murder campaign in Latin America.
Pamela, Congress has the power to stop these strikes, demand accountability, block any additional steps toward war, and work toward the solutions that actually address the overdose crisis. We're leading the charge to make it happen.
A failed foreign policy status quo that prioritizes profit and war over people and peace won't change without those who are willing to fight every day in ways big and small for a better future — you are helping build toward that vision.
We won't let the Trump administration use a failed war on drugs to justify dangerous and illegal strikes that remind us of a failed war on terror.
Let's build the pressure and political space that can push us toward peace.
Thank you for working for peace,
The Win Without War team
