Pamela, something exceptional happened last week. Dozens of Republican lawmakers finally found the courage to say "NO" to Donald Trump.
Not in Congress, of course… they're still trying to find their courage in Washington, and unfortunately many Democrats seem to have lost theirs too.
Instead, this happened in Indiana – but with your help, it can be a turning point for the entire nation.
Here's what happened: Trump wanted an advantage in next year's midterms, so he ordered the state legislature to redraw their federal voting maps to give his party a 9-0 clean sweep –two additional House seats before a single vote is cast.
Every time the public gets to weigh in on Trump's second term, they've given a clear rejection.
But instead of listening to the people, Trump's strategy is to silence us.
That's why what happened in Indiana is so remarkable – a majority of his own party rejected his election rigging scheme, proving that people power is still what matters most. [1]
You can call it a stand on principle, or simple self-interest - the key is, more and more elected Republicans realize, despite his dreams of dictatorship, Donald Trump isn't going to be president forever.
And once he isn't, voters will remember who took his side, and who stood up for the people.
So, as we enter 2026, I believe we're turning a corner. People are waking up to the simple truth that Trump's power grabs are neither popular nor inevitable, and that's thanks to you.
We're ready to keep this momentum going, but here's the reality, Pamela: if we want to keep seeing wins like this, we must be able to use our voices – at protests, at state houses, and most importantly – at the ballot box.
We know the GOP plans to throw every voter suppression scheme he can cook up at voters this year, which is why we're beefing up our Election Protection program, earlier than we ever have before for a midterm year.
It costs us around $50, start-to-finish, to get one additional volunteer on the ground for early voting through Election Day. And remember that one additional volunteer will be the difference between having a voice and going home in frustration for hundreds or even thousands of voters.
If you want to keep this momentum going, make your first gift to Common Cause and chip in $50 – or whatever you can – to sponsor a volunteer today >>
