Trump made the ridiculous claim that "AI WILL BE DESTROYED IN ITS INFANCY!" if basic state-level AI safeguards to protect kids, consumers, and the financial system remain in place. In an enormous gift to his Big Tech allies, Trump announced plans to sign an executive order undermining AI safety laws and send the DOJ after any state that defies his edict.
State AI regulations aim to protect the public from the unprecedented dangers of this technology. Child safety online, consumer protections, mental health, fair hiring practices, the stability of the financial system, and cybersecurity are all at risk without AI safety measures.
