Pamela,
The fallout from Trump's shutdown is growing by the day, and so does the cost of living. While Trump parties at million dollar fundraisers, thousands of federal employees across the country are being furloughed or fired, with some unable to even access their work email to learn they've lost their jobs.
Meanwhile, the consequences stretch far beyond DC. In Alaska, when Typhoon Halong struck, communities were left dangerously exposed. Trump's cuts to the National Weather Service reduced weather balloon launches -- eliminating critical data needed for life-saving alerts.
His administration also canceled a $20 million flood protection grant for the Alaska Native village of Kipnuk just months before the storm. When the typhoon hit, the community was devastated -- homes destroyed and families displaced.
And the damage isn't limited to the storm zone: The shutdown has put federal nutrition aid in jeopardy. The federal program known as Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) -- which helps nearly 7 million low-income women and young children -- is now running on emergency contingency funds and remains at risk of going without full backup unless lawmakers act.
All the while, our energy bills are rising at twice the rate of inflation.
At every turn, the Trump administration and Republicans in Congress are choosing the path that means higher costs and more uncertainty for families, including many just barely getting by.
This isn't leadership -- it's callous neglect. Trump's shutdown, coupled with his reckless energy cuts, is raising costs for American families and leaving those families to bear the brunt of his chaos.
Your leaders need to hear from you. Email your Senator today.
If your Senator is standing up for working families and defending essential services, thank them. If not, demand they stop siding with Trump's chaos and reopen the government immediately.
People are suffering in every corner of the country -- and it's only getting worse the longer this shutdown drags on.
Thanks for taking action,
