You've seen the images. National Guardsmen with machine guns roaming the streets of DC Trump seized emergency powers over DC's police force, claiming crime is "out of control." This is a pretext for Trump to put military boots on the ground in any city he pleases.
So why is Trump taking over our cities? It's simple: He wants to create an authoritarian police state to squash any and all dissent. He wants tanks outside voting booths in time for the midterms.
And now, Trump's allies are planning to give legal cover to Trump's illegal invasion of our cities. They've come up with a "crime bill" that would shred local authority and set up authoritarian rule nationwide, allowing Trump to justify the military presence in Chicago and Baltimore that he's already planning. DC is just a test case, [Firstname/friend]. If this is deemed "successful," he will roll it out around the country.
Congress is back from recess, so it's time to tell them to reject Trump's request to extend the DC takeover beyond the original 30 days, and then take it around the country.
If he's able to extend federal control of DC, he knows he can get away with doing it to other cities, like Los Angeles and Chicago.
If Congress passes this "crime bill," this DC model will spread to cities across the country. Trump wants sweeping, unchecked authority to bypass mayors, city councils, and even governors in communities anywhere and everywhere.
Trump is counting on Congress to do his bidding. That's why we have to stop them.
We still have time to halt Trump's ongoing quest to become an authoritarian dictator. Tell Congress to reject Trump's request to extend the DC takeover, setting the chilling precedent that this could be done nationwide.
